The Director of Elections of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah who is campaigning to be elected as General Secretary of the party has paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu in Accra.

He explained to Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu his objective to run for General Secretary of the NDC.

In praying for him, the National Chief Imam encouraged Mr Afriyie-Ankrah to ensure that unity among Ghanaians is his focal objective, no matter their political affiliation.

Regarding the violence that characterized the 2020 general elections, Mr Afiryie-Ankrah described the inability of the security apparatus to arrest and prosecute persons who caused the death of eight people in the 2020 general elections as a miscarriage of justice.

He said the reluctance of the state to investigate the violence recorded during the period is regrettable.

In the 2020 general elections, eight lost their lives.

Despite petitions to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Police and the Ministry of Interior, no perpetrator has been brought to book.

He described this as unfortunate.
