The Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has rubbished reports that he murdered his late wife, Obaa Yaa Nkansah Dwamena in 1993.

A news item of January 27 in the Daily Post newspaper suggested Akufo-Addo killed his wife on August 17, 1993. The Daily Post quoted another newspaper, New Patriotic, which Akufo-Addo say is non-existent.

But a statement issued and signed by Nana Akufo-Addo’s Press Secretary, Eugene Arhin condemned such report describing it as “nothing but a vile, repugnant and tasteless fabrication,” and is demanding an apology and retraction from the paper.

“We demand an unconditional and immediate retraction of story in the next edition of the paper, which comes out on Thursday, January 28, 2016. This retraction must be given the same prominence as was given to the earlier story,” the statement said.

The statement described as tragic, the fact that Ghana’s politics is sinking this very low to the extent that people are sacrificing respect for cultural values in society just to score cheap political points.

“It is tragic that our politics should sink to such levels that there appears to be nothing sacred, nor any respect for our cultural values in our society; and people would want to use the death of a loved one to defame a political opponent” it said.
