One of Ahmed’s photos shown on TV by the MP[/caption] The Minority in Parliament is calling on the security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency for allegedly “instigating” the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, who was a member of the Tiger Eye PI team. The Minority said Kennedy Agyapong put the pictures of the now deceased in the public domain on his television station, Net2 TV, and “incited the public visit violence on Ahmed for monetary reward”. That, members believe, amounts to a crime of abetment per the laws of the country. In a press conference Monday, January 21, Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament James Agalga said Kennedy Agyapong is complicit in the case. “It is on this basis that we state that Kennedy Agyapong appears to bear some criminal responsibility for the death of Ahmed and he also bears criminal responsibility for instigating the public to beat up Ahmed and cause harm to Anas for monetary reward.” The Minority observed that Kennedy Aygapong should have been picked up immediately he uttered those words in June but “sadly, that was never done,” Mr Agalga said. The Minority maintained that the posture of the fellow parliamentarian after the murder of Ahmed smacks of “pomposity” and “impunity” as he went from media house to media house justifying his actions and accusing Anas and his lawyer.
The Minority said it is worried that up till now the security agencies have not picked up the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for questioning but rather allowed him to leave the country, an act it deems “uncharacteristic of a democratic state”. The Minority also says it is convinced that Kennedy Aygapong is above the laws of Ghana, considering the conduct of the law enforcement agencies in the matter. While calling on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to show leadership, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs are also calling on the law enforcement agencies to do the needful. “We call on the law enforcement agencies to promptly cause Mr.Agyapong’s arrest and prosecute him for his actions,” Mr Agalga said.
