Newly-appointed board member of Tema Oil Refinery Company Limited (TOR), Kamal Deen Abdulai, has asked critics to exercise restraint in their criticisms of Mr. Abdul-Mumin Issah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly who was arrested by the Western Regional Police Command.

Although he does not endorse the conduct of the the MCE, Kamal Deen said his side of the story should heard before conclusions are made.

“Yes, misconduct of whichever kind or whichever forms it comes is wrong. However there is always a maxim Audi alteram partem , listen to the other side states that listen to the other side. Justice Nii Amaa Ollennu will say listen to it twice, if you do not listen to the other side and you sound judgmental that is quite appalling,” he said on the New Day show on TV3 with Berla Mundi on Friday.

He was said to have been stopped by the police officer on duty while in his Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GE 5615-20 but he verbally assaulted the officer and threatened him.

The MCE was, thus, arrested for alleged motor traffic offence, verbal assault and offensive conduct against a police officer who was performing his lawful duty.

He is set to be arraigned before court on Friday, February 4.

He will face three charges of assault on a public officer, offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to Sections 205, 207 and 298 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.

“He has also been charged for dangerous driving contrary to Section 1 of Act 683 of 2004 as amended by Act 761 of 2008,” a press release issued by the Head of the Western Regional Police Command, DSP Olivia Adiku, said.
