A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kofi Tonto has said Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong made a conditional statement that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decides to unleash violence they would be met squarely by the NPP.

He indicated that leading members of the NDC including former President John Dramani Mahama, National Chair Johnson Asiedu Nketia and National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi have all made comments suggesting that they intend to cause violence in the elections.

He recounted the comment made by Mr Mahama to the effect that the NDC comes from a revolutionary background and when it comes to violence nobody can beat them to it and also the ‘do or die’ pronouncements as some of the comments Bryan Acheampong was responding to.

On the part of Asiedu Nketia, he said, immediately after winning the Chairmanship race, the former General Secretary of the NDC said “we are prepared to sacrifice everything, I mean everything including sacrificing lives.”

Their Communications Director Sammy Gyamfi also threatened the Military and the Police, Kofi Tontoh added.

“These are some of the foolishness Bryan Acheampong was responding to,” he said on the Big Issue on TV3 Tuesday, April 11.

He added, “Bryan Acheampong made a conditional statement, he said if the NDC unleashes violence then we will show them that we have the men. So let us put the argument in a proper context, he spoke about the need to fix the economy.”

Bryan Acheampong had assured members of the NPP that the economy would bounce back.

He said the government was working to secure a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Hopefully, he said, by June this year the deal will be closed, a situation that will lead to the resurgence of the economy.

Speaking to members of the NPP in Kwahu after a health walk on Saturday, April 8, the Abetifi Lawmaker said “NDC party will collapse. If the NDC dares to use threats, Violence and foolishness in the 2024 election we will let them know we have the men. We will show them that we have the men. We have the men.

“It will never happen that we the NPP will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC. It will never happen! We will make sure NPP remain in government at all cost”.

The former Minister of State in Charge of National Security added “Now with the way things are changing the economy will bounce back again, I am telling you that we are going to come around that curve and we are going to win the 2024 elections hands down.”
