North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has failed as Head of the Economic Management Team.

He said Dr Bawumia, after taunting the late former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur with 170 economic questions, has not been able to deliver when he was given the opportunity.

His comments follow the decision by the Akufo-Addo administration to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support.

Mr Ablakwa in a tweet said “It seems the loquacious Vice President who harassed his predecessor, the late Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur with 170 questions and loudly boasted of having a ‘solid’ Economic Management Team would eternally be remembered as: IMF — Inept Mahamudu Failed.”

Meanwhile, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere-Darko has said the decision to go to the IMF rather takes pressure off the Akufo-Addo government to focus on things that will impact positively on the economy over the next 15 months.

He wondered why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are happy with the decision to head to IMF.

“If @JDMahama and the NDC are happy because NPP going to the IMF now is what will deliver NDC victory in Dec 2024 then they better think again. It rather takes pressure off the Akufo-Addo Government to focus on things that will impact positively on the economy over the next 15 months,” he tweeted.

The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been instructed by President Akufo-Addo to commence engagements with the Fund.

This followed a telephone conversation between the President and the IMF Managing Director, Miss Kristalina Georgieva, conveying Ghana’s decision to engage with the Fund.

The Ministry of Information announced this in a statement on Friday July 1.
