Former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has denied widely held reports that he was brought into politics by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

“[Former] President Kufuor did not bring me into politics,” he clarified.

Mr Kyerematen made this known on Wednesday, September 27 when he spoke exclusively on TV3‘s New Day.

He was speaking in the wake of his sudden resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his subsequent announcement that he will contest the 2024 elections as an independent presidential candidate.

He addressed talks that he was a darling boy of former President Kufuor, saying that widely held view was “unfair” to the former President.

He said people have fuelled the rumours that the former president ensured that he went to the US to work and later be an ambassador.

“Sometimes, I talk to him and he feels really hurt,” Mr Kyerematen revealed about the talks.

He indicated how at age 22, he was a manager at Unilever and doing well.

He said he formed the Young Executive Forum to back the NPP when it was formed in 1992.

“I think it is unfair to [former] President Kufuor but unfortunately this has continued for a very long time until he exited.”
