A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has lauded the governing New Patriotic Party’s campaign team for the December 2024 general elections, describing it as “a solid team.”

The NPP, on Monday, February 19, outdoored its campaign team ahead of the December polls.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight programme, Dr Asah-Asante underscored that the individuals put together by the party are “men and women of substance,” adding that the country awaits their campaign messages.

“For elections, you need to have your resources, both human and material—which they will have—your strategy, manifesto, and messages,” he said.

He noted that these messages should be about problems the party has identified and the measures it will take to address them if voted into office.

He maintained that the messages should “address the problems of the people” and the “lingering challenges” they face within the political system.

The political scientist, however, stated that issues of the economy will be a “daunting task for them to convince Ghanaians” of the economic situations in which they find themselves.

He also added that the issues of employment, growth of the economy, and infrastructure development, amongst other things, should be packaged to convince people.

“If you go to the promises they made, are you sure by the time we get there—December 7—they will have enough to stand on to campaign?” he quizzed.

Dr Asah-Asante further stated that the party should make no mistake that elections are about work, emphasising “how much work they have done to showcase to Ghanaians.”

According to him, one of the key indices of governance that affects the fortunes of political parties is corruption.

“Issues of corruption are going to be brought to the fore and discussed in detail,” he said.

Hawa Koomson is campaign coordinator for coastal zone

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson, was named the coastal campaign co-ordinator.

Also, the immediate past Minister for Decentralisation and Rural Development and one-time General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dan Kwaku Botwe, was appointed as the campaign chairman and strategist.

Mr Opare Ansah has also been named as the Campaign Manager.

Also, the MP for Effiduase/Asokore Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Ayew Afriyie, was appointed as the campaign co-ordinator for the Middle belt.

The defense minister and MP for the Bimbilla constituency, Dominic Nitiwul, will be the Northern Belt campaign co-ordinator to garner enough support for Vice President Dr Bawumia.

This was announced by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Koduah Frimpong, at a media briefing in Accra on February 19 after a crucial National Executive Committee meeting.
