Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Charles Nana Banyin Onuawonto Bissue, who is seeking to re-election, has promised to deliver 21 parliamentary seats for the party in the region for the 2020 general elections.
Efforts by Mr. Bissue and other regional executives of the party in the 2016 elections led to the NPP doubling its parliamentary seats from eight to 16 in the Western Region.
“This was achieved by dint of hard work and strategic planning,” Mr. Bissue told Takoradi-based Connect 97.1 FM, and underscored the need for the party to consolidate the gains and handwork to win more in 2020.
“If we have been able to increase our seats by a 100 percent margin I have no doubt in my mind that we can take it to 21.
“In fact the idea is to make the Western Region the “World Bank” of the NPP and this will require a tried and tested executives including myself for this to materialize,” he argued.
Mr. Bissue has thus appealed to the electorates to retain him and his team, which he described as the gamechangers, as the party’s regional secretary “so that my solemn vow to make the Western Region an NPP stronghold can be achieved”.
Meanwhile the Western Region Election Committee of the NPP has slated Saturday April 21, 2018 for the regional elections to be held in Tarkwa.
Mr. Bissue has been subjected to some vicious personality attacks for various reasons, including the fact that he advised President Akufo-Addo to place a ban on all forms of small scale mining.
Mr. Bissue has described as a feeble, the attempt to run him down and challenged his detractors to embark on “a clean campaign as I have done so far”.
According to him, these untruths have rather strengthened his resolve to work hard for the party.
“The New Patriotic Party believes in competition because competition brings the best out of people and if this is the case, then I believe that we should compete within the confines of the party’s rules and regulations because we all belong to the same party and after the elections there will still be NPP” he said.
He wondered why some people will “fabricate stories against our opponents” because of elections, saying “this is not what the NPP stands for and it is unhealthy for the Party and we are only providing our opponents with ammunitions to destroy us”.
