Council of Ahanta Chiefs[/caption] The Council of Ahanta Chiefs have demanded for the speedy investigation into alleged misconduct of embattled former executive secretary of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue. The Council is worried that it has been more than three months “since Charles Bissue was alleged to have misconducted himself in office and we do not know where the investigations have reached”. Speaking on behalf of the Council at a meeting with the Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, the Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove, Obrempong Hema Dekyi, said Charles Bissue has committed himself to all the necessary due process and yet nothing is happening. “He has even resigned”, he added. Obrempong Hema Dekyi revealed Mr. Bissue has been granted bail by both the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and Special Prosecutor and reports to them every Friday. He stated the Council is not happy with the pace of investigation, urging the two bodies to expedite the process. “We are even shocked that two bodies are investigating Charles Bissue for the same alleged misconduct”, he said “I’m not a lawyer but I have been made to understand that what is happening to Charles Bissue amounts to double jeopardy and that it is wrong”, he added. According to him Charles Bissue is being targeted. “We are also doing our own investigation and if it is true that Charles Bissue is being witch-hunted then the person will have the whole of Ahantaman to contend with”, he warned Obrempong Hema Dekyi said, as much as the Council will not condone wrongdoing, they will also not allow an allegation to go unsubstantiated. “We will be the first to punish our subject when he misbehaves because that will also affect us. So, in the same vein we will not allow our subject to be seen a criminal when nothing supports that tag”, he said. By Eric Yaw Adjei| 3news.com|Ghana]]>
