The Minority Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, is concerned the government seems to have bypassed the Western Region in its ‘Year of Roads’ agenda.

According to the Ellembelle Member of Parliament, there is nothing to show in the Region in terms of road despite it being a major source of livelihood for the country.

“Regrettably, despite its immense contributions to lubricating the wheels of development of Ghana, the Region’s road infrastructure has been completely neglected and put on the back burner by the current administration,” he stated in a write-up on Friday, July 28.

“President Akuffo Addo’s much-touted promise of a “year of roads” appears to have conveniently bypassed the Western Region, much to the disappointment of its inhabitants,” he added.

FIX THE TAKORADI-AGONA NKWANTA ROAD.

The Western Region of Ghana is a treasure trove endowed with abundant natural resources, with an array of valuable reserves of gold, cocoa, timber, oil, and natural gas.

These resources have played a vital role and tirelessly fuelled the country’s economic growth, contributing enormously to Ghana’s GDP.

Regrettably, despite its immense contributions to lubricating the wheels of development of Ghana, the region’s road infrastructure has been completely neglected and put on the back burner by the current administration.

President Akuffo Addo’s much-touted promise of a “year of roads” appears to have conveniently bypassed the Western Region, much to the disappointment of its inhabitants.

Such neglect not only undermines the region’s importance but also violates the very principles enshrined in Article 36(6) of the 1992 constitution. This constitutional imperative demands fairness in the distribution of development, emphasizing that equality of economic opportunity be extended to every citizen and region without exception.

The question that arises in the face of such painful neglect is;

Is the Western Region receiving its fair share of development under the current government?

One need not look farther than the vulnerable state of the Takoradi-Agona Junction road to uncover the unwelcome answer.

This vital transportation artery, crucially connects the major towns and cities in the region, yet it is plagued and marred by deadly potholes and cracks, rendering every journey through it a perilous and treacherous expedition.

The government cannot shy away from its constitutional obligation to provide fair and inclusive development to each region, with the Western Region undoubtedly deserving its rightful portion.

The Western region which is the breadbasket of the country cannot be sidelined.

Government must provide the region with the requisite infrastructure development it so desperately needs.

The western region deserves better!

Fix our roads now!

HON.ARMAH-KOFI BUAH

(DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER)
