ECOWAS chairman, President John Dramani Mahama, has on behalf of his associate Heads of State congratulated David Cameron on his re-election as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

David Cameron won an unpredicted majority in the UK’s parliamentary elections on May 7.

The Conservative Party managed to secure 326 seats after 643 constituencies were counted, to the Labour party’s 230 seats, and eight for the Liberal Democrat party.

Ghana’s President Mahama in a statement stated that Mr. Cameron’s election is a testimony of the trust the people of Britain have in his leadership.

“The decisive result of the May 07 polls is a clear indication of a renewal of confidence of the British people in your vision and leadership,” he said.

He called on David Cameron to use his second term in office to strengthen cooperation between the United Kingdom and ECOWAS states.

“I am confident that we will through our collective endeavours attain more cooperation during your second term of office for the benefit of the present and succeeding generations of the UK and the ECOWAS region.”
