Former Director of Elections for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has called on the general public to ignore the viral video of some NDC members swearing blood oath with a sword, stating, “That publication is inaccurate, misleading, and deliberately twisted to suit the agenda of our detractors.”

According to Mr. Ankrah, the publication preceding the viral video is a “mischievous” new story that has been published by the governing NPP mouthpiece.

In a sword-wielding video that has gone viral on social media, Mr. Ankrah and other NDC officials are seen taking an oath. They swore allegiance to the party and pledged to protect it at all costs.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah clarified that the said video has nothing to do with the party’s current officials overseeing the upcoming 2024 general elections and urged the public to ignore it.

“The said video has nothing to do with our national executives and our party officials in charge of managing the upcoming 2024 general elections. I therefore urge the public to ignore the fake news,” Mr. Ankrah said in a statement yesterday [January 18].

“For the records, the said ceremony was arranged at my own behest ahead of the past general elections of 2020 when I was the Director of Elections of our party. It is yet another example of how seriously I took my role and how committed I was to ensuring that we did our work with utmost integrity in the interest of our party and its members and supporters,” the statement added.

He therefore called on party members to remain calm and rally behind the leadership to ensure that the NDC is voted into office on December 7.

“I also call on our members and supporters to rally behind our party officials and support our national officers in our quest to win the next elections and deliver the people of Ghana from the hardships and misgovernance of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” he stated.
