The Minority in Parliament says it will resist any attempt by the Nana Addo-led government “to force down the throat of Ghanaians lesbianism and gayism”.
Speaking rather sternly at a news conference in Parliament, Monday, Minority Leader Haruna Idrisu said the gay community are actively behind the much talked about Comprehensive Sexuality Education suspected to have been enshrined in the country’s new curriculum for basic schools.
“The move to introduce the CSE is desperately championed by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community (LGBT), pay masters of the Nana Akufo-Addo NPP government. We will join well-meaning Ghanaians who respect and uphold our culture and religious values in high esteem to resist it,” he said.
The Minority Leader questioned President Akufo-Addo’s stance on morality saying, “It is most shocking that a President who carries himself outwardly as a pious builder of the Lord’s Cathedral for which he is pulling down many pre-existing structures including bungalows for Judges and the Passport Office will expose his duplicitous character by embarking on such a terrible assault on the morals of our children.”
The issue of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education has dominated discussions in the country as it emerged it has been captured in a new curriculum for basic schools. This, religious leaders, civil society groups and Ghanaians at large have all added their voices to the discussion calling for the CSE to be dropped.
