Convention People’s Party (CPP) 2020 Parliamentary Candidate for Jomoro Kwesie Manford has joined calls for the National Chairperson of the party, Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumakumah, to step aside.
According to him, beyond the fact that “she was not validly elected, she has also demonstrated and exhibited conducts that run contrary to the ideals on which the party was formed and have thrived on for decades”.
He opines that the electoral fortunes of the party will continue to suffer should Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong “continue to hold herself as the Chairperson of the party”.
“If you are travelling in a car and the driver is not experienced, is not tolerant and transparent, the only sensible thing to do is to get the driver changed. You don’t hope or experiment, that will only spell doom at a time you need the driver most. So, we have to change her now while we can.”
Issues of legitimacy, accusations and counter-accusations have rocked the Convention People’s Party in recent times.
But speaking with Connect FM, Mr. Manford believes that “for those who are familiar with the make of CPP are not charlatans and will not pretend do appreciate that needless wrangling have no place in the party. If it is a simple matter of accountability or legitimacy, the constitution of the party is very unambiguous about what should happen. So why is anyone who deems him or herself a true member of the party not conforming?” he asked.
He is sad that the CPP is not talking about a flagbearer two years to another major election but finds it convenient to spend time on “avoidable and unnecessary show of ego”.
“The youth of this country, who are in the millions are passionate about a third force. And everyone knows CPP is that alternative. We have to put our acts together, put our house in order for us to be that attractive. We are just playing with our fortunes. The wrangling should stop”.
Mr. Manford insisted: “Anyone who feels too big to subject him or herself to the rules of engagement set forth by the party should not be allowed to destroy the party. Even the beloved daughter of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was pushed”.
“This internal wrangling are unhealthy if we so desire to have any chance of winning political power again.”
