Former President Jerry John Rawlings[/caption] Former President Jerry John Rawlings has commended Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his address at the UN High Level Forum on Culture of Peace last Friday and said he made Ghana proud. Mr Rawlings, however, chastised persons who have put political spin on the Asante king’s address. A former Chief of Staff to Mr Mahama, Julius Debrah, issued a statement on Sunday, contesting aspects of the pronouncements of the Asantehene, who said but for his persuasion of Mr Mahama to concede defeat, the country would have been plunged into electoral violence. “As former Chief of Staff to President Mahama, I was associated closely with all the pre, during and post 2016 poll events,” Mr Debrah contested. “I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter,” he stressed. The issue ignited public discussion between the NDC and the NPP with the latter suggesting Mahama is undemocratic, a claim the former has rejected and ascribed to President Nana Akufo-Addo. But Rawlings has described as  “unwarranted and unnecessary,” discussions on the issue . “There is enough tension,” he tweeted on Tuesday. “Let’s cool it and cool off.” https://twitter.com/officeofJJR/status/1173919262383267840?s=20 By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
