The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbha has refuted claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the governing party was behind the injunction application against the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the main opposition party.

Mr Ahiagbah dared the NDC to explain how the NPP is doing that.

“The idea that the NPP is behind the NDC’s incompetent handling of their internal election processes is irresponsible and laughable. The NDC must tell Ghanaians just how the NPP from its HQ, is preventing the NDC from compiling a credible delegates list, album, or whatever they choose to call it,” he tweeted.

It is recalled that the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, Abraham Amaliba has said accused the NPP of sponsoring the injunction application against the conduct of the presidential and parliamentary primaries filed by an aspirant Dr Kwabena Duffuor, an application that has since been withdrawn from the court by Dr Duffuor.

Mr Amaliba indicated on the ‘Big Issue’ on TV3 Friday, May 12 that prior to the injunction application, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen had indicated that there was going to be a court case against the NDC.

Lo and beyond, he said, court action was indeed taken. In his view, this could not be a coincidence.

“We know they are sponsoring these things. Nana Obiri Boahen said he foresees a court case, truly, it has come to pass. Is Nana Obiri Boahen a soothsayer?” Mr Amaliba said.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor on Tuesday filed a suit against the party seeking to injunct the primaries.

But a statement issued by the General Secretary Fifi Kwetey said “While urging calm among our rank and file, we wish to assure that the party as at April 20th, 2023 had made available the full Delegates List to all presidential candidates in line with our commitment stated in our guidelines that, this Primary Document, would be furnished to all presidential candidates.

“The party is therefore confident that, this temporary challenge will be quickly overcome to pave way for the holding of the primaries on schedule.

“It is our expectation that we shall all put the larger interest of our great party ahead of all considerations, knowing that the good people of Ghana are eagerly looking up to our party, come December 7, 2024, to rescue this nation from the current national collapse.”
