Builsa North Member of Parliament James Agalga has said that the comments by the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bugri Naabu on the leaked tape that captures an alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP) make the work of parliamentary committee investigating the matter easier.

Bugri Naabu is suspected to have played a role in the alleged move to remove the IGP.

Mr Agalga who is also former Deputy Interior Minister said that the comments of Mr Naabu will become part of the evidence of the committee.

Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3 Thursday, July 20, Mr Agalga who is also a member of the defense and interior committee of Parliament said “The confessions of Bugri Naabu make the wors of the committee formed by the Speaker easier. The interview will definitely become part of the evidence that the Committee should be looking at. I will not want to predetermine anything otherwise the work of the committee will stand prejudiced.”

Bugri Naabu had revealed that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) arrested his personal aide and receptionist for questioning.

He suspected that they had been picked up over the leaked tape that captured an alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

Bugri Naabu revealed this in an interview with Oyerepa TV on Thursday, July 20.

Narrating the incident, he said “My personal aide, SK, and my receptionist also called Akua left in the morning that they were going to the office.

“I came to the office and I couldn’t find them. I started calling them because I got scared but to no avail.

“I have just been informed that they are both at the NIB office at Kawukudi junction. They were picked up while they were on their way to the office. I was told they came with a white car and pushed them into the car and whisked them away.”

“I am appealing to the media and calling some lawyers to get this resolved. I don’t know why they were picked up.

The whole of this week, the tape issue came up, but I have not spoken about it. I don’t want trouble. Some people are saying that it has a connection with the tape.”

Portions of an audio that allegedly captures the plot to remove Dr Dampare said that “Alhaji, my only problem… this current IGP if we do a mistake and take him to the elections, it will not help us.

“It will not help us at all and I will not mind if the position is not given to me but that man is changed; because he will not help us, he will not help us at all… he won’t help the party at all.

“I know there are others who are also good for this position, if I don’t get and this man is changed and those people that we think they are our men get I (it is ok)t… Because we need to break this 8.

“That is important, we need to break the 8… Because I wouldn’t want doctor to become the flagbearer and then we lose the elections… ” one of the senior officers told the senior NPP members who is believed to be a former regional chairman of the party and now a traditional ruler.”
