The Spokesperson of the Bawumia Campaign Team has denied assertions made by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Ken Ohene Agyapong that he was approached to be a running mate to the Vice President for the 2024 elections.

Mr Agyapong, addressing his supporters in Kumasi after a healthwalk, alleged that he was offered bribe to step down in the party’s presidential primary for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said after refusing, he was offered the opportunity to be Dr Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 presidential elections.

But the camp of Dr Bawumia has vehemently denied this.

“We wish to state in unequivocal terms that the Bawumia Campaign team has not approached Kennedy Agyapong for such a running mate offer, nor have we assigned any member of the team to approach him for the same,” a statement issued by Spokesperson Dr Gideon Boako on Saturday, September 30 insisted.

“It is also not true as alleged by Kennedy Agyapong that Dr. Bawumia is collapsing the party through intimidation.”

He added that the unity of the NPP has been of great concern to Dr. Bawumia.

“It is in light of such concern that he refrains from responding to unwarranted attacks by others in the contest and has cautioned his supporters against responding to such provocative attacks.

“His strategy has been to persuade delegates to support his bid. This he does, by laying his vision for the party and country.”

The Bawumia Campaign Team further pointed out that the November 4 primary is seen as an internal contest “and all actors, particularly the aspirants must be guided by the core values of the NPP, which include but are not limited to truth, decorum, and respect for one another”.

The Vice President won majority of votes in the Super Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26 and he is tipped to win the November 4 primaries.

Mr Agyapong, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh are among the other contenders.
