John Dramani Mahama[/caption] Former President John Dramani Mahama has condemned Thursday’s bloody violence at some polling stations during the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. According to the former president, the incident is unfortunate and marks “a sad day for Ghana’s democracy”. Armed men, believed to be pro-NPP, purportedly stormed the residence of NDC parliamentary candidate Delali Kwasi Brempong’s residence firing gun shots while the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam George, was also assaulted by the same group. Addressing delegates of the NDC in the Adaklu Constituency as part of his flagbearership campaign tour of the Volta Region, Mr Mahama said: “It is unacceptable that a by-election is characterised by such violence and intimidation with many of our comrades brutalised and injured”. He warned that as a democratic party, the National Democratic Congress would resist any attempt by the Akufo-Addo government to subvert Ghana’s constitution as it happened during Thursday’s by-election. Meanwhile, Mr. Mahama has said he will suspend his tour to return to Accra to visit the victims of the incidents. However, reports from the University Hospital indicate that the victims, numbering 18, have been treated and discharged.
