The Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has cautioned all flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their campaigns in a civil manner.

He says there is no need to engage in character assassination during the internal elections of the party.

The energy should rather be channeled to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and make sure that Former President John Dramani Mahama does not come close to the presidency again.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Komla Kluste on Wednesday, June 14, Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh who is campaigning for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to be elected flagbearer of the NPP said “There is a lot of discipline in our caucus, you cannot campaign openly on our platform if you campaign openly I  take you off the MPs’ Whatsapp platform.

“The MPs also understand that they have their constituencies to win, there is a bigger picture of winning an election, therefore, you can project your candidate but it should be done in moderation. That is why during this supposed exchange between myself and our senior colleague  Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, I was very careful in the choice of my words.

“Our problem now is the NDC, it is not ourselves. At all costs we must not let John Mahama come close to the presidency because of his legacies, that is where we are focused, not on ourselves.”

The Nsawam Adoagyiri lawmaker further said this is the time for Dr Bawumia to lead the NPP.

“This is not Alan’s time, this is Dr Bawumia’s time. Politics is season and time, if you are not careful you will get it wrong. Look at the US, Biden himself, look at all the processes he went through, today he is the president.

“People say Alan was closer in the last primaries we held so reasonably he will take over but the dynamism of leadership and politics should let them know that the narrative has changed. It is Dr Bawumai’s time, nobody can change it except God.

“We respect all the people who are seeking to lead our party. The fact of the matter is, I have been on the grounds, I have been to all the regions, if the primaries is conducted Dr Bawumia will win, Alan cannot beat Bawumia. I am not a novice in this game, I have done grassroots mobilization all up to his time, if a win is coming I can see it and I can feel it. Even in the special delegates conference, Dr Bawumia will not win with less than 70 percent of the special delegates’ conference. we have done our work and we are still working the grassroots support will be bigger.”
