Eastern regional communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to cause the arrest of President Mahama for not telling Ghanaians the whole truth about the ex-Guantanamo Bay detainees.

According to the NPP, even though the President denied that the former detainees are terrorists, information the party gathered from the US government indicates that the detainees are “dangerous terrorists”.

Regional Communications Director, David Prah told Onua 95.1FM that President Mahama lied to Ghanaians about the GITMO two. “The president himself is aware that he is not telling Ghanaians the truth,” Mr. Prah added.

“Asiedu Nketiah called for the arrest of opposition New Patriotic Party presidential running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who said the truth about the bloated voters’ register, so why not the President who on countless occasions has peddled untruth.  I’m calling on Asiedu Nketia to organise press conference and also lead the arrest of the president for deceiving Ghanaians,” he asserted.

He accused the president of failing to communicate with both the legislature and the general public before bringing in the detainees, which he interpreted as a sign of disrespect to Ghanaians.

He argued that if the government claims the two detainees are not terrorists, why then are they not allowed to live freely in Ghana or allowed to travel to Yemen where they come from since no court has convicted them.

Mr. Prah has therefore urged Ghanaians to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the November 7 elections to ensure their security.
“We would have done broader consultations before even deciding on the detainees if NPP was in power so we don’t put our security under threat” he indicated.

Mr. Prah also accused the president and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama playing innocent to the operations of DKM micro finance who are alleged to have duped many customers in the Brong Ahafo region.

“It was surprising the President said he was hearing of the DKM the very day of his media encounter” David Prah stated. “The president over and over lied to Ghanaians about the end of “dumsor” so it is not surprised to hear him say it is the first time he was hearing of DKM operations.”
