Executive Director of the Global Info Analytics Musa Danquah has indicated that the decision by Alan Kyerematen to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections will affect the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show prior to the announcement by the former Trade and Industry Minister, Musa Danquah indicated that Alan as an independent candidate can win about 10 to 13 percent of the national votes.

He indicates that Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, from all surveys conducted by Global Info Analytics, performs better against John Dramani Mahama on the national level because he appeals to people who would not have voted for the NPP.

He says Mr Kyerematen as an independent candidate is likely to win 20 percent of NPP supporters and that can translate to about 10 to 13 percent of the national figures.

He believes the figure is enough to cause damage to the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 election.

“Data we have seen over the years show Alan appears to do well against Mahama on the national level because he can appeal to people who wouldn’t otherwise vote for the NPP.

“He also does well in the Akan constituencies than Bawumia on the ticket of the NPP. Alan is likely to win about 20 percent of NPP supporters as an independent candidate and that will be a disaster for the NPP. That figure can give Alan 10 to 13 percent on the national level and if you take that figure from a national election, there is trouble,” he indicated.

When asked if Alan would have performed better on the ticket of a new political party, Mr Musah Danquah indicated that the margin would not be too huge as compared to him running as an independent candidate.

“Alan Kyerematen running as a president on the ticket of a political party would have an effect but would not be so huge because people will see that party as an option for the NPP. Alan going independent will affect the NPP, he would now be seen as putting Ghana’s interest first as an independent candidate and that is where he could cause the most damage to the NPP,” he added.
