The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has justified that the Akufo-Addo-led regime has performed better than the opposition NDC in its seven years.

He enumerated policies in defense of his assertion and why he deserves to be the next president at a mini-rally in Kwahu.

Hundreds of party faithful across the eastern region, party stalwarts, bigwigs and national executives participated in the walk from Bepong to Mpreaso for the mini-rally.

It was a charged atmosphere as various speakers addressed the crowd.

Food and Agriculture Minister Bryn Acheampong said food inflation had reduced from 61 percent to 27 percent and suggested the economy was on a re-bound.

He reiterated last year’s remarks about not handing over power.

“I want to repeat my words here to the NDC, as I did last year, we will not hand over power to them today or tomorrow. At that time, we were in crisis, inflation was high, and the NDC felt they would have won elections if it had contested at that time. Today, inflation has reduced. Food inflation has reduced from 61 percent to 27 percent. The dollar is between 12.00 and 13.00 cedis now.”

Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, enumerated policies implemented that warrant a deserving stay in power after eight years.

“Everyone is a witness we have performed better. Jobs, agricultural growth, industrial growth, trade balance, schools, Zongo development, digitalisation, fish landing sites, court systems, he wants to be voted for yet he had 20 percent against my 70 percent—that is Akofem mathematics,” he chanted.

He took a jab at the opposition NDC flagbearer’s alternative policies and promised a new tax system and a new regime for small-scale mining operations.

“He said he would invest in free senior high school, he cancelled the teachers’ and nurses’ allowances. When I come by God’s grace, I will continue to bring new policies. A new tax system will be introduced, a flat tax, and amnesty will be added, we will cancel all debts owed GRA and start afresh.”

“I will help small-scale miners, we will do a mineral development fund, to ensure they have money for their activities. We won’t burn excavators again. We are bringing bold solutions. ‘Asumasi’ [former president Mahama] is bringing old and failed solutions,” said the leader of the NPP.
