Newly elected flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama says delegates of Saturday’s primaries have shown the way to victory in 2024 with the overwhelming endorsement given him.
The former President polled 297,603 out of the valid votes cast in the primaries to beat former appointee Kojo Bonsu, who polled 3,181 votes. The third candidate, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, pulled out a day before the elections.
Addressing supporters of the NDC at the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Mr Mahama expressed delight in the margin of win.
“The NDC delegates have shown the way by electing me with a definite 98.9 percent or in mathematical terms, you always adjust to the nearest number,” he told a cheerful crowd on Monday, May 15.
“So, 98.9 percent is 99 percent,” he stressed much to cheers at the venue.
“This is indicative of their elevated faith and conviction in my ability to provide honest, visionary and responsible leadership.”
Mr Mahama is already making his plans known ahead of the 2024 polls.
He asked Ghanaians to go for “vision and experience over ‘try me’ and experiment,” adding that he will bring to book all those who have been accused in one way or the other of corruption.
For him, the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has become a “clearing agent” and has lost the fight against corruption.
“The president no longer makes corruption a pep topic in any of his speeches because corruption has defeated him hands down.”
