Police commander who got 14 yr boy lashed interdicted

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has caused the interdiction of the District Police Commander of Sefwi Akontombra for instructing his officers to lash a 14-year-old boy. The boy, who is a pupil of St. James Anglican Primary school in the Sefwi Akontombra District of the Western Region, was left with bruises after allegedly receiving 19 lashes in his palm and back. According to reports, the boy was caught fighting with his colleague after school, which they were ordered to stop but the said boy was said to have put up unruly behaviour. The District Commander, DSP Dickson Obeng, who felt the boy’s stubbornness ought to be exorcised, ordered some police officers to discipline him by way of lashing. The action comes on the back of recent reports about police brutality and high-handedness on civilians. The IGP who is not impressed by the action of the District Commander wants the case investigated. “The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate interdiction of the District Police Commander of Sefwi Akontombra, DSP/Mr. Dickson Obeng for ordering his men to assault a 14 year old primary school boy at Sefwi Akontombra in the Western Region,” a statement signed by  ACP David Eklu, Director General of Police Public Affairs said, “In addition to this, the IGP has directed the Police Commander for Western Region to constitute a team to investigate the incident and report within two [2] weeks.” Meanwhile, the father of the boy, Enoch Tanoh told Joy News the Commander confirmed to him that he ordered the beating because his child was stubborn.
