Senior Police officers Tuesday morning went to Parliament to brief the Speaker on circumstances that led to the death of  Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North.

Joseph Boakye Danquah was stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday in his bedroom at Shiashe in Accra. It is unclear what might have necessitated the attack by the unknown assailants, but five persons have been picked up to assist in the police investigations into the crime.

Security personnel including the Regional Police Commander Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and some senior officers from the Police Headquarters were at the crime scene this morning.

Meanwhile, tv3network.com has gathered that the police hierarchy including the Director of Operations, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu called the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho on phone to break the news of the death of the MP to the Speaker. They later called on the Speaker in his office where the leadership of the House were also briefed.

Meanwhile, Parliament has been forced to suspend sitting as a result of the death of the MP after the police briefing.

“I believe the entire House is not in a good mood to do business today,” the Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said when he moved a motion for the suspension of sitting in the morning.

“The long and short of it is that Hon. JB Danquah who only last week Thursday paid a glowing tribute to the memory of Dr. JB Danquah has had his life cut short by somebody,” he told Parliament.

The House would resume sitting tomorrow.
