The NDC MPs embarked on the march immediately after walking out of the swearing-in of the new Ayawaso West Wuogon MP[/caption] Members of the Minority in Parliament have marched to the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to register their displeasure at the presence of masked security officers during last Thursday’s by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. Violence marred voting, causing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw from the polls. Its Member for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George, was assaulted by the uniformed officers said to be operatives of the National Security Council. The assault on the lawmaker, particularly, is what has stirred the Minority to walk to the seat of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). They want the identity of the officers to me made known.
Leader of the walk Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, who is also Minority Chief Whip, told TV3‘s Evelyn Tengmaa during the walk that theirs is a peaceful one. “We are just going there peacefully,” he pointed out. He said Mr George will make a statement to the IGP, David Asante-Apeatu.
