According to him, the deployment of the continent’s resources to train its own in conflict resolution among others is laudable.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made these remarks on Wednesday, July 22 during a graduation ceremony held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) in Accra.
Graduates including President of the Methodist Church of Ghana Professor Emmanuel Asante and Former Majority Leader Cletus Avoka had studied for Executive Masters in Conflict, Peace and Security as well as in Gender, Peace and Security.
Addressing the graduating students, the vice president lauded the initiative by the Center in collaborating with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to offer such courses not only for Ghanaians but students from other African countries.
“Gradually, we are building and expanding our local capacity for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in our region,” the vice president said.
“Efforts to ensure that Africa becomes peaceful is achievable especially when we begin to train, equip and lead the deployment of our very own expertise to solve this problem.”
The General Counsel of the Kennesaw State University, Dr Flora Devine, observed that the introduction of the gender-related course in peace and security will further protect child rights and the vulnerable in society.
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Ursula Owusu-Ekuful was adjudged one of the best three students.
