Lawyers for a Chinese who was accused of attempting to slash the throat of his worker have narrated what they believe was the real reason for what happened.

Xue Hui is a Site Foreman at Poly Changda Engineering Company in Takoradi, Western Region.

A statement his lawyers issued narrated how on Wednesday, September 28 a disagreement ensued between him and a subordinate, Isaac Boateng, who is also a machine operator on the project.

They narrated thus: “Mr. Isaac Boateng’s contract was terminated by the site foreman, our client, for a number of reasons including misconduct.

“Mr Boateng was assured that his severance package would be paid him in full. Mr Boateng insisted on receiving his severance package on site which was impossible because the foreman could not have paid him at the work site. However, he was assured that he would be paid in full once the team returns to the office.

“Obviously not happy with his termination, Mr Boateng became very confrontational and attacked Our Client, the site foreman. The confrontation turned into a fight and in the process, Mr Boateng suffered an injury.

“The situational report from the site indicates that a vehicle was immediately arranged to take Mr. Boateng to the hospital for medical attention. We are informed that Mr. Boateng was treated and discharged on that same day. Our information is that Mr. Boateng lodged a complaint with the police and Our Client was arrested and has been in police detention since the 29th day of September, 2022.

“Our Client was taken to the Circuit Court in Takoradi on Monday, the 3rd of October, 2022 and was denied bail pending the trial of the matter. He is to reappear in court on the 11th of October, 2022.  We wish to place on record that Our Client is a law-abiding resident in the country, and we are committed to fully collaborating with the Ghana Police Service and the court system to ensure justice is served to both Isaac Boateng and Our Client.”

Their reaction comes after the Sekondi District Court presided over by Her Worship Nana Abena Asoh Owusu Omenyo refused a bail application for Xue Hui, who has been accused of attempting to murder his employee with a flip knife.

According to the presiding judge, it is only a trial court that can grant the accused person bail.

Presenting the fact of the case to the court, Chief Prosecutor Superintendent Steve Addom said the accused person is a Chinese National and manager of Poly Changda Engineering Company based in Takoradi while the complainant, Isaac Boateng, is a concrete mixer and an employee of the same company.

He narrated that on Tuesday, September 27, the complainant came to work at 7:00 in the morning and closed at 3:00pm instead of 5:00pm. The following day whilst the complainant was taking his lunch, the accused person confronted him as to why he closed earlier than the usual closing time without permission.

This resulted in an exchange of words and the accused told the complainant he has been dismissed.

The complainant reportedly became annoyed, packed his working attire and went to the accused person to pay him off.

A hot argument ensued between the two. Without provocation, the accused person came out of his office wielding a flip knife which he subsequently used to slash the complainant’s neck.
