The Director of Passports, Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, says that within a month or two, online passports application will begin in Ghana.

According to him, the Passport Office has so far engaged all the necessary stakeholders to facilitate online passport application process.

He said this on Tuesday, March 15 while responding to complaints about challenges surrounding the acquisition of passports in the Ghana and the U.S. during an interview on 3FM.

Mr. Ntrakwa, however, noted that there were a few challenges to be dealt with before the process is rolled out.

“Currently, we are talking to the banks that have been selected to operate online,” he said.

“We want to broaden the scope in such a way that all the products that we put online will be available to all the banks that will be operating on it.”

He said once this challenge has been fixed, Ghanaians will be able to apply for passports online.

He also stated that the passport office has so far not subscribed to decentralization of printing of passports mainly because of security reasons.

“Decentralisation of printing of passports is something that I would not even subscribe to because of the security concerns that we have,” Mr. Ntrakwa said.
