One feard dead, seven injured in Akyem Akooko clash

One person is feared dead and at least two others hit by bullets in Akyem Akooko in the Eastern Region where an attempt by the people of the town to eject a fetish priest turned violent Tuesday morning.

The people in the area staged a demonstration-cum-durbar and invited the priest, one Nana Saka, to come and answer allegations to the effect that he has been engaging in human rituals in the town.

The priest was said to have refused to honour the invitation prompting the people who sported red and black attire, to move in on the priest at his shrine in an attempt set the place ablaze,TV3’s Eastern Regional correspondent, Yvonne Neequaye, has reported.

She reported that the priest sensing danger, fired a shot which hit one person; a situation that prompted the Police who were called in, to fire warning shots to restore law and order. Seven persons were said to have been injured in the process. They are currently on admission.

A joint police-military personnel has been deployed to the area while investigations have begun.
