Ghanaians have been urged to report incidents of cyber-crime and cyber-security breaches as the country observes Cyber Security Awareness month in October. The National Cyber Security Center under the Ministry of Communications has established various platforms to receive complaints. These channels include online portals, hotlines (292), SMS lines (292), and mobile applications that will be dedicated solely for incident reporting. Speaking at the launch of the National Cyber Security Awareness month, Communications Minister, Ursula Ekuful urged the public to take advantage of the platforms to report cyber-crime cases immediately for investigation and prosecution. Ghana lost $35 million to cyber-crime in 2016 and $69 million in 2017. This year’s National Cyber Security Awareness month is focused on personal accountability and the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cyber security at home and at the workplace. The National Cyber Security Awareness month is a collaborative effort between government and industry to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security and to ensure that people have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online. Cyber-crime reports will be handled by the National Cyber Security Center, Data Protection Commission and the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
