Nurses posted to Korle Bu stranded

Over 50 nurses posted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are reported stranded.

The nurses, some of whom are from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions, were supposed to report on Monday, May 16 to begin employment.

Though they admit there was no verbal agreement between them and the Ministry of Health over the posting, they were all listed to work at the hospital and had to report on Monday as per the instructions.

Our reporter Daniel Lartey cited authorities as saying the Hospital has exceeded its employment quota for nurses.

This was confirmed by President of the Coalition of Unemployment Nurses Adam Masahudu who said the hospital has told them their placement cannot be guaranteed.

The president however said a meeting with the Human Resource officer yielded fruitful discussions.

He indicated, nonetheless, that the Coalition will not take anything less than employment of all of its members.

Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman expressed shock at the news. He however added that the ‘alleged stranded’ nurses should go to the supervising authorities at their various posting stations for onward direction on what to do.

He further indicated that the posted nurses should not pay attention to rumours from colleagues who may not have adequate information about the development.
