The head of security for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Capt. Edmund Koda has been released by the Bureau of National Investigations -BNI.
His release was after several appeals from the party supporters who questioned the BNI over the detention of Capt. Koda who had been granted bail by the High Court. Hundreds of NPP supporters were massing up at the party’s headquarters to match to the BNI headquarters but even before they moved, news of the release of Capt. Koda had filtered through, causing them to suspend their intentions.
Captain Edmund Koda and one Captain Acquah were granted bail after they were arrested for hosting three South African ex-police officers who were in the country to train bodyguards of Nana Akufo Addo.
Although they were granted bail, the names of the two Captains were struck out of the list. The BNI held them in custody beyong the mandatory 48 hours, a move the leadership of the NPP have described as unconstitutional and an afront to human rights.
Credible information reaching tv3network.com indicates that Capt. Koda was released after a health bill was presented to the BNI officials. It was reported that he (Capt. Koda) was unwell and his condition was deteriorating and needed immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile the leadership of the New Patriotic Party are to hold a meeting to determine their next line of action with regard to the three South Africans who are still in BNI custody despite being granted bail.
National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammy Awuku has given indications that the party intends to sue the BNI for contempt and disregard of a court ruling which clearly ordered them to release the three South Africans on bail.
