The John Mahama 2012 Campaign has taken note of statements emanating from a press conference by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deliberately misinforming the public about the on-going collation of results of the general elections. These false claims by the NPP are baseless and without merit.

The attempt to declare the results of the elections is in flagrant breach of Ghana’s electoral laws which vests the authority to declare electoral results in only the Electoral Commission.

The misinformation and falsehood being peddled by the NPP are part of the grand scheme to cause confusion and create unnecessary panic and tension, knowing very well that they are nowhere near victory.

The National Democratic Congress takes a strong objection to the false claims and urges civil society groups, including the National Peace Council, to bring the NPP to order.

We would like to urge our supporters to remain calm, especially as we are very confident of victory.

The NDC is well ahead of the NPP and the other political parties in the parliamentary elections. And in the presidential elections, President John Mahama has maintained a steady and unassailable lead over the other candidates.

As a law-abiding party, however, we will await the formal declaration of results by the Electoral Commission.
