The Police in the Ashanti region have arrested the New Patriotic Party’s chairman for the Asawase constituency, Isaac Brenya over the murder of one Abubakar Saddiq which occurred last Friday.

One other suspect known as Musa Bawa is also in police grips over the same reason. The weapon which was allegedly used by the culprit to commit the murder (knife pictured above) was retrieved by the police. The man alleged by the police to have committed the murder known only as Dunia is yet to located.

Family of the deceased are still in mourning days after the incident. They had given the police 24 hours to arrest the constituency chairman or they would advice themselves.

The police statement confirming the arrest said we “have arrested Chairman Brenya, Bawa Musah, Luis Mensah, Zakaria Seidu, Hajia Wasila Gariba, all from Chairman Brenya’s side…”

The statement further indicated that “suspect Brenya and Osman hired thugs to protect the party office. The thugs were brought in two taxis and a motorbike. In the cause of the confusion suspect Bawa Musah, Bigman and Liboo who was wielding a pistol chased the deceased Sadiq Abubakar who was also wielding an axe through a narrow lane.

“Suddenly Mohammed Duna came from nowhere and stabbed the deceased in the chest and he fell on a blind woman who was sitting in front of her door and died. Duna then dropped his knife at the scene and picked the deceased’s axe and they left the scene.”

The confrontation started as a result of accusations that some party executives in the Asawase constituency sponsored a group of party supporters to demonstrate at the party headquarters demanding the reinstatement of suspended Chairman, Paul Afoko.
