Some members of the New Patriotic Party from the 10 regions are protesting in Accra to demand the reinstatement of Paul Afoko who has been suspended from his position as the party’s chairman.

Chanting “No Afoko! No Vote!“, the group besieged the  party headquarters Thursday morning to present a petition to the party’s leadership, asking them to reconsider the decision of the National Executive Committee that indefinitely suspended Mr. Afoko.

According to the members who are from the various constituencies, they do not want Freddie Blay, who is currently acting as the party’s chairman, saying ” We don t need any Freddie Blay, he should go back to CPP”.

They group is currently marching to the residence of the party’s 2016 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to present a copy of the petition after which they will address the media to clearly state their case.

“They are from the various regions. They came in 10 VIP buses and are demanding that Afoko is reinstated,” our correspondent Komla Klutse reported from the party headquarters. There are about 500 members taking part in the peaceful protest.

He said the group is also demanding accountability within the party.

“It has been a very peaceful demonstration by the people,” Klutse said, adding that  They wanted to enter into the headquarters but the Police prevented them and allowed only one person to present the petition to the part. They had initially wanted to enter the premises of the party headquarters but the Police prevented them allowing only one representative to present the petition.
