The Public Relations Officer for the Tamale Central Mosque, Alhaji Mohammed Gazali, has disclosed that the Tamale Central and Ambariya mosques in Tamale remain closed despite the easing of restrictions on religious activities by government.

He revealed the conditions attached to the easing of the restrictions are difficult to implement hence the decision to abstain from observing the prayers.

In a two-paragraph statement signed by Alhaji Gazali, the Muslim community in the Tamale metropolis are happy with the move by government to ease restrictions on religious activities in the country.

“The conditions attached to the easing of the restrictions are a bit difficult to implement by both the Central Mosque and Ambariya,” he stated.

The Central Mosque, Ambariya Mosque and the Ahmadiyya Mosque have so far confirmed they will not observe Jumah prayers on Friday, June 5 despite easing of the restrictions.

So far, the only mosque which has confirmed it will observe the Jumah prayers in Tamale is the Shia.

It will be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 10th televised broadcast to the nation last Sunday outlined the roadmap aimed at relaxing restrictions instituted to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

He recommended an “abridged formats” of religious services.
