The National Labour Commission (NLC) says the strike declared by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) is illegal. On Tuesday, November 12, JUSAG declared that it is embarking on an indefinite strike starting Wednesday, November 13 over members’ salary review. In its notice of action, JUSAG said its leadership met the Commission on Monday to communicate its resolve to embark on strike. “No staff/member of JUSAG shall report to work on Wednesday, 13th November, 2019,” a statement issued by JUSAG directed. But a few moments later, a letter signed by the Executive Secretary of NLC, Ofosu Asamoah, said JUSAG was directed to refrain from embarking on strike or any intended industrial action. The Commission said by its decision to embark on strike, JUSAG contravenes Section 161 of Act 651.
