The head of training at the National Identification Authority (NIA), Abdul Ganiyu, has clarified the delay in the issuance of Ghana Cards at approved registration centres. Most Ghanaians who have undergone the registration in Accra have complained about their inability to receive the cards immediately after egistration. Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show hosted by Winston Amoah, Abdul Ganiyu the cards are not provided right after registration due to problems of connectivity and not about poor service provision as widely claimed. “There are two different ways of registering and one is to be enrolled which means to be registered as a Ghanaian and secondly the issuance of the card which contains some relevant information of the owner,” he explained. Mr. Ganiyu also stated that most of the cards have been printed but the people have not showed up for them. “We have called and sent so many text messages but no one showed up.” He concluded by saying that despite the exercise scheduled to end on Saturday, July 6, some centres will still be opened to give other Ghanaians who were not able to register the privilege to do so.
