New voters register exhibition to begin September 18

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the provisional exhibition of the newly compiled voters register will start September 18.

In a statement, the commission noted the exercise is in accordance with law.

“In accordance with Regulation 23(1) of C.I 91 of the Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations 2016. The Electoral Commission will exhibit the Provisional Voters Register for inspection by Voters at all Polling Stations throughout the count. From Friday the 18th   to Friday the 25tb of September. 2020”.

According to the EC, the exercise will be a week-long, 7.00am to 6.00pm each day including Saturday and Sunday.

All registered voters are encouraged to visit their Polling Station with their voter’s ID cards to verify their details.

  • The EC added the Exhibition Exercise will give every registered voter the opportunity to do the following:
  • Check their name. Particulars and other details so as to effect corrections where necessary.
  • Object to the inclusion of unqualified names in the register on grounds such as the registration of minors and non-Ghanaians.
  • Replace unclear photographs,
  • Verify Polling Station details ahead of Election 2020.

Voters who registered at the District Offices of the Commission are also encouraged to visit the Polling Station assigned to them during the Registration Exercise to verify their details.

The Commission says it has also introduced an SMS Platform to enable registered Voters access their registration details.

To access this Platform, voters are asked to text their Voter ID Card Number to the Short Code 1422 to obtain registration details.

The Public is also informed that changes to a person’s details can be requested at the Exhibition Centre and effected at the District Office.

The Commission assures the Public that it will enforce stringent safety protocol at all Polling Stations throughout the country, some of which it listed as the compulsory wearing of face masks, the use of hand sanitizers and the observance of the social distancing protocols.

The EC encourages all registered voters and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the Exhibition Exercise to make it a success.”

The registration exercise ended on the August 6, 2020.
