NEDCo restores power to disconnected communities in Tamale

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has restored power to Dohanayuli, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region that was cut off due to an attack on its officials. This comes after the power distribution company refused to rectify problems on two transformers that have been down since Wednesday, July 5 2017 following down pour within the metropolis. The restoration however coincided with the serving of summons by bailiffs from the Tamale Circuit Court on 20 persons cited for illegal power connection. NEDCo officials and bailiffs were attacked last Wednesday when they attempted to serve the summons on these people. In all, the bailiffs managed to serve 17 on Monday, with three persons yet to be served. Last week’s attack is said to have angered the management of NEDCO who in turn plunged the entire Dohanayili area into total darkness by cutting them off from the national grid. But after a meeting between management of NEDCo and some opinion leaders in the area, power was restored at exactly 5:30pm. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the VRA/NEDCO, Alhassan Ababa, told Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Monday that they are hopeful the residents will not attack their workers again due to the caliber of people whom they met. He said the delegation from these towns were optimistic they were going to ensure such attacks would not occur again, hence the decision to restore power.
