The Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juabeng, Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh, has called for the immediate transfer of some police officers stationed at Ejisu from the municipality.

He claims, as the head of security in the municipality, he is not happy with the conduct of some police officers at Ejisu.

‘I humbly appeal to the Inspector-General of Police to transfer all the policemen and women who have no regard for me, from the municipality with immediate effect for the good of the sustainable peace in the municipality”

The MCE’s call is based on what he calls a failure of the police to effect any arrest during a violent demonstration by some angry residents of Ejisu which occurred last week.

The peaceful demonstration turned to violent when some of the demonstrators started vandalizing public property. They also hurled stones at the palace of the Paramount Chief of Ejisu, to protest against the sale of a land that currently serves as a market centre for residents.

The MCE ordered the arrest of some of the demonstrators but the police according to him, failed to effect the arrest.

Mr. Yamoah-Ponkoh made the request in the presence of the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye and the IGP, Mohammed Alhassan during the commissioning ceremony of a 1-storey police station at Ejisu.

In response, DCOP Kofi Boakye said he had taken note of the request for the transfer of the police officers but stated that cannot done immediately.

“Appropriate action would be taken at the appropriate time”, he stressed.

The Regional Police Commander assured the Ejisu-Juabeng MCE that the police will not hesitate to take a disciplinary action against any police officer who misconducts himself or herself or acts contrary to the police code of ethics.
