The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working on its manifesto for the 2016 elections, its leader has revealed.

President John Dramani Mahama says the party is also putting together its campaign team.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Monday, March 14, the president, who will lead the party for the second time into a major election, pointed out that this year’s campaign will be evidence-based.

“We are going to showcase to Ghanaians what we have been doing and how we can continue to build on what we have been doing”.

He said the effects of the socio-economic transformation on Ghanaians will be brought to the fore during the electioneering campaign period “and if given the opportunity for another four years, how we are going to make it more convenient in their lives”.

‘Opana’

President Mahama also indicated that the campaign will be interspersed with jokes, which he says everybody appreciates.

He explained that the allusion to ‘opana’ during his ‘Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana’ tour in the Volta Region was just made in jest.

“Opana was meant to be a joke,” he stressed, adding that it means “wogyafo” in Ghanaian parlance. ‘Wogyafo’ refers to a person whose name a speaker wants hidden.

“So if I say that in jest I think people should take that lightly.”

The president explained how some well-meaning friends of his called him after that statement toask him to stick to his characteristic political persona.

“I tolerate other opinions,” he said, asking others to also tolerate his jokes.
