The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has proposed the organisation of concurrent primaries in October to elect the party’s 2016 presidential and parliamentary candidates, www.tv3network.com has gathered.

The primaries will involve all registered members of the party, our sources say.

The FEC is expected to meet the National Executive Committee (NEC) to discuss the proposals.

Most political parties in the country are re-organising for the 2016 general elections with the largest opposition party, New Patriotic Party (NPP), leading the pack having elected its flagbearer and majority of its parliamentary candidates.

Envisaging no contender to its current leader, John Dramani Mahama, the incumbent NDC is expected to combine the flagbearership race and the parliamentary primaries.

The FEC wants the current electoral college to be expanded to include all biometrically registered members of the party.

FEC’s proposals are expected to be deliberated upon by NEC next month after which nominations will open for the contests.
