Deputy Communications Director of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Samuel Amoako has stated that the two major political parties – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – want to “hijack the political space” at the expense of the nation.

He said not only are they doing that by their activities but also some “ill-informed persons, who are running false polls to make the two parties still dominant,” are involved.

Addressing the media Monday, Mr Amoako said countries that have run on two parties have neared collapse.

“Countries that have stuck religiously to the two-party state have almost collapsed like Kenya and Zimbabwe,” he said, “whereas countries that have made a switch to introduce a third party into the body politic have built all inclusive societies and are currently moving on with their governments and have become more united than they were when on two-party state.”

He blamed the media for propagating the failings of the two major parties, asking personnel to be fair and objective in their reportage.

He said it is only the PPP that is most prepared to face the challenges confronting the nation.

He said the results of polls from the Eastern and Central Regions suggest that the pollsters either “do not know the reality on the ground, are influenced by the historical antecedent of electoral results of this nation or are just doing the bidding of some political parties.”
