He said the two in Accra were among the lowest risk detainees and were even among the most compliant.
President Mahama disclosed this on Tuesday, January 12 when he met journalists at the Flagstaff House.
He observed that when Ghana received the request from the United States of America over the transfer of the terrorist suspects, extensive consultations both internally and externally were conducted.
He said Khalid Mohammed Salih al-Dhuby and Mahmmoud Omar Mohammed Bin Atef were never trialled for terrorism as they were picked as innocent 20-year-olds by the US.
President Mahama assured Ghanaians not to entertain any fears as it is better to rather have knowledge of their existence in the country.
“What you should fear is what you don’t know than what you know.”
President Mahama also insisted that there were no monetary considerations in agreeing to the deal.
“The US itself would have disclosed if there was any monetary consideration.”
There has been public uproar over the decision of government to bring in the terrorist suspects with many calling for their return.
