Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo Addo has called on the paramount chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bosoma Aso Nkawiri in his private residence to pay homage.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Secretary of the NPP Nana Obiri Boahen in an interview with TV3.

This comes after the Sunyani Traditional Council has issued a letter dated on the 18th December 2015 revealing their unwillingness to meet the NPP Flagbearer.

Nana Obiri Boahene also said the NPP will meet the chief again to resolve the issue though he was not sure of a specific date. In a statement released by the office of the flagbearer it said in part that “Nana Akufo-Addo and his team were warmly received by the Omanhene and his elders.”

It further stated that the NPP flagbearer was accompanied by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate; Nana Obiri Boahen, NPP deputy General Secretary; Madam Ama Busia and Hackman Owusu Agyeman, both members of the NPP National Council of Elders.

Others included Baffuor Awuah, former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and MP for Sunyani West; Mr. Peter Mac Manu, 2016 Campaign Manager; and Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjuor, former NPP Regional Chairman.

A remark passed by the Brong Ahafo regional chairman of the NPP, Asomah Cheremeh did not go down well with the chiefs of Sunyani. His remark came a day after the chief of Sunyani openly commented that the ruling government would win next years elections by some 80%.

He said this during a working visit by President John Mahama to the region. Cheremeh’s reaction to the chief’s comments had been tagged as derogatory by the Sunyani Traditional Council hence their decision to call on the leadership of the NPP to apologise, which they refused.

The New Patriotic Party is holding its 17th extraordinary delegates conference in Sunyani to outdoor the party’s campaign team for the 2016 elections and also discuss the way forward following recent internal wranglings that have rocked the party.
