Alex Segbefia, a member of the 2020 Campaign Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has charged the media and to name and shame politicians who engaged in electoral violence, irrespective of the parties they belong to.

He said this action will ensure that the violence that characterize electoral processes in Ghana is reduced drastically.

He was commenting on the just-ended voter registration exercise undertaken by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).

During the registration, there were accusations and counter-accusations among officials of the NDC and also the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding alleged bussing of people to various areas to go and register.

Mr Seggefia believes that in order to deal with some of these excesses, the media will have to openly name and shame the politicians engaged in such act.

He told Abena Tabi on The Key Points on TV3 Saturday, August 8 that: “Name and shame. If an NDC person does something wrong or NPP does something wrong the media should shame them.

“It is time for the media to begin to name and shame the politicians and you will begin to see changes.”

Meanwhile, the EC has served notice that all persons who vouched for people who were not qualified to register for a voter’s identity card in the just-ended registration exercise, will be arrested because they have engaged in an illegality.

Director of Electoral Services at the EC Dr. Serebour Quaicoe indicated that both the unqualified persons who managed to register and those who vouched for them will all be arrested and be made to face the law for their actions.

He revealed that the data and other information on all those who registered using the vouching system and those who vouched for them are available to help the EC and the security agencies to make the identification.
